Guatemala City, April 23, 2024.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) supported the construction of a new police substation in the municipality of Monjas, Jalapa, which was inaugurated today by the president of the Republic, Bernardo Arévalo, and authorities from the Ministry of the Interior (MINGOB), in order to promote a safer environment and preserve order and the integrity of the people.

The new 322 square meter infrastructure has administrative and operational planning areas for crime prevention. In addition, it has been outfitted with equipment and furniture to improve the performance of police officers and thus provide better services to more than 27,000 inhabitants in the municipality.

Mario Jacobs, CABEI Director for Guatemala, said, "The Government of the Republic is committed to strengthening management processes for the prosecution of crime, and with these new facilities we are taking another step forward in this commitment to the population.  The Central American Bank for Economic Integration will continue to support the improvement and expansion of the services provided by the National Civil Police, through the financing of more police stations and technological equipment.”

Miguel Almeyda, CABEI representative in Guatemala, highlighted "We are pleased to be part of the opening of yet another new substation, which will strengthen community security and contribute to protecting people's lives, integrity, and assets. As the Central American people's bank, we will continue to promote initiatives that improve the quality of life and promote the country's competitiveness".

To date, with funds from the Investment and Modernization of the Justice Sector Program, financed by CABEI, two more stations have opened their doors to serve the population, one in the municipality of San Luis Jilotepeque in Jalapa and the other in Aldea El Fiscal in the capital city. The construction of five more police stations in different parts of the country is expected to be completed in the coming months.
