Tegucigalpa, March 7th, 2023.– The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the German Financial Cooperation, through KfW, have signed a non-reimbursable cooperation agreement for EUR2.0 million to execute the "Sustainable Urban Mobility Program in Central America" to make resources available in the region to finance energy-efficient transportation infrastructure and the acquisition of higher technology vehicles.

This grant will strengthen the preparation and evaluation of projects that will enable the creation of a portfolio in the sector. It also seeks to develop institutional training actions to facilitate the generation of knowledge and tools for the formulation of sustainable mobility initiatives and projects in the region.

"This Program with our strategic partner KfW demonstrates the firm support of the Official German Financial Cooperation to the region, since with its support we are joining efforts to reactivate the economy and innovative sectors of great relevance such as sustainable urban mobility, this will undoubtedly generate great benefits for the environment and Central Americans," highlighted CABEI's Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

KfW's Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Claudia Arce, participated in the ceremony, taking advantage of her visit to discuss future strategic elements of cooperation with CABEI. Regarding this signing event, she said: "The broad cooperation between CABEI and KfW now allows us to strengthen the capacities of Central American countries in sustainable mobility issues. With these non-reimbursable funds, we plan to develop quality projects that can benefit the region's populations in terms of access to safe and climate-friendly transportation."

In addition, the initiative will subsequently include a credit component of up to EUR130.0 million, through the "Kreditanstalt Fur Wiederaufbau" (KfW) bank, which seeks to provide financing resources to implement sustainable, accessible and safe multimodal transportation projects for people that, in turn, contribute to the improvement of energy efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

With this signing, CABEI and KfW confirm their commitment to developing the sustainable urban mobility sector in Central America and thereby boosting the region's economic growth.
