Managua, February 10, 2025 – The completion of the National Sustainable Electrification and Renewable Energy Program (PNESER) Tranche A represents a milestone in the lives of more than 336 thousand Nicaraguans, who now have access to efficient and sustainable electricity service.

This initiative, executed and financed with a US$75 million investment by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), is the result of a joint effort with the Nicaraguan government over the past five years. Its objective has been to expand electricity coverage in rural and semi-urban areas, enabling communities to study at night, conserve food, use electrical appliances, and operate small businesses more efficiently.

PNESER has made significant progress by connecting 806 communities to the electricity grid, benefiting 30,731 homes, and extending a total of 1,929.30 kilometers of electricity network. This has allowed 161,664 people to have access to electricity, improving their quality of life.

In addition, the program has facilitated the normalization of 205 settlements, ensuring that 28,322 households have legal and safe electricity service. In parallel, an additional 379.20 kilometers of network have been installed, expanding access to electricity for an additional 74,495 people, thus consolidating efforts to bring energy to the neediest areas of the country.

The initiative has also promoted energy efficiency by replacing street lighting and conventional lamps with more energy-efficient models. This includes the installation of 20,911 street lighting fixtures, 720,000 fluorescent lamps in various projects, 20,000 LED fixtures in the government sector, 300 photovoltaic systems in rural areas, 591 efficient air conditioning systems and 6 water heating systems in hospitals.

Likewise, the transmission system in rural areas has been strengthened with the installation of 75 kilometers of 230 kV transmission line in Terrabona - San Benito, benefiting 20,135 homes. Access to electricity is fundamental for the social and economic development of these communities, opening the door to new educational, productive, and entrepreneurial opportunities.

CABEI, in collaboration with the executing agency, National Electric Transmission Company (ENATREL) and the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), continues to advance in the execution of Tranches B and C of the PNESER, which will benefit thousands of Nicaraguans and contribute to the country's economic and social development.
