CABEI Board of Directors approves new Access to Information Policy to strengthen transparency and accountability
Tegucigalpa, octubre 16, 2024 – The Board of Directors of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved a new Access to Information Policy with the aim of strengthening its commitment to transparency, openness, and accountability. This update responds to the progressive developments that the Institution has achieved in this area and marks a significant advance in the way in which the Bank will manage and disclose its information.
The new policy, which was subject to a public consultation unprecedented in the history of the Bank, incorporates a more inclusive and modern approach. "This is an update that meets the most advanced international standards in terms of access to information. It not only reinforces our commitment to openness, but will also consolidates CABEI as a leading institution in terms of accountability in the region," said Carlos Sanguinetti, President of the CABEI Communications and Access to Information Committee and Titular Director for Argentina and Colombia.
Among the relevant aspects of the new Policy are the commitment to disclose open data, greater clarity in exceptions to disclosure, and the creation of a second instance independent of the Bank for appeals on denials of information, among other advances that will allow maximizing access to information. “These improvements allow the Policy to not only be clearer and more accessible to the public, but also offer a structure of greater internal responsibility within the Bank to ensure that access to information is agile, efficient, and in line with international best practices,” explained Gisela Sánchez, Executive President of CABEI.
With the approval of the new Policy, the Bank will begin an implementation process to create public implementation manuals, adjust technological systems, and train the Institution's personnel and citizens, among other actions. Additionally, during this process, CABEI will initiate a public consultation on its future open data strategy and effective communication of its public documents. The new Policy will enter into force no later than June 1, 2025.
With this update, CABEI reaffirms its commitment to transparency as a driver of development and positive transformation for the region, thus strengthening its role as a reference Institution in the field of sustainable development.
