CABEI disburses US$250 million to Colombia to improve climate resilience and boost clean energy generation

The resources come from the Development Policy Operation in Support of Climate Action and Energy Transition approved by the multilateral in 2022.

Bogotá, March 6st, 2023. – For the benefit of more than 52 million Colombians, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) disbursed on Wednesday the US$250 million approved by the multilateral as part of the Development Policy Operation in support of Climate Action and Energy Transition to support the planning, management, monitoring and financing of climate action in the Republic of Colombia, a member country of the multilateral since 1997.

"At CABEI, we are aware of the importance of promoting climate change adaptation and mitigation, which is why we are pleased to take another step towards this goal in all of our member countries. With these resources disbursed today, environmental sustainability will be improved in areas of high biodiversity importance through the development of fundamental policies that will enable Colombia to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050," emphasized CABEI's Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

As part of this operation, the creation of a regulation committed by Colombia in the framework of the Paris Agreement is contemplated, as well as the promotion of innovative economic instruments to cover climate financing gaps.          

This DPO contains actions that are positively linked to Central American countries, generating conditions conducive to green growth and sustainable development in the region.
