CABEI has disbursed US$35.5 million for MIPYME in Honduras

With these resources CABEI, through intermediary financial institutions, provides options to Honduran businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tegucigalpa, September 17, 2020.- Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MIPYMES) are the sectors most affected by confinement due to COVID-19, that is why the Central American Bank For Economic Integration (CABEI), through the  Financial Sector Support Facility Program for the Financing of MIPYME has disbursed $35.5 million to three Honduran financial institutions to support businesses whose income has been affected during the emergency.

In this sense, CABEI's Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, stated that "a few months ago we set a goal of US$50 million for MIPYMES in the country affected by COVID-19. The great news is that to date, US$35.5 million have already been disbursed. The financial institutions in Honduras that provide the facilities are Banco Atlántida, Banco FICOHSA and the Foundation for the Promotion of Small and Micro Enterprises "José María Covelo", the resources come from the aforementioned program that seeks to promote MIPYME.

In this way, the availability and use of these resources seeks to maintain jobs and the re-hiring of personnel dismissed since March 11, 2020.  Likewise, the facility's funds allow it to care for the different sectors affected by the pandemic, among them: production of the agrifood chain, hotels and tourism, construction, creative industry and media, general commerce and service provision companies, among others.

MIPYMES will benefit from financing to meet working capital needs and operating obligations; this in turn will protect the employment generated by the country's important business sector.

If you need more information about this facilitation we invite you to contact the above mentioned institutions or CABEI through www.bcie.org.
